Major Feast Day Celebrations:

This Month 6th and 7th grades will be responsible for the student participation at First Friday Mass

8th Grade Religion- We will complete our study of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and begin a special rosary project. Students will also be looking at the importance of Holy Mother Church in helping us get to Heaven. This month we will also contact our Religious Communities.

6/7Grade Religion- We will begin our study of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. We will be writing to the Franciscans of Primitive Observance and complete a chapter on Divine Revelation.

General Math- We will be working with decimal concepts and operations with decimals. This month we will also begin a unit on statistics and graphing.

General Science- This month we will continue our unit on Stargazing with a study of the electromagnetic spectrum and how God may have created the world with a Big Bang. Then we will take a look at the history of astronomy.

Algebra- We will be working on rates, ratios, proportions and percents. Students will also graph, write and solve inequalities and begin work with functions.

Pre-Algebra- We will continue our work with integers, including negative numbers, exponents and inequalities. Students will be introduced to scientific notation and use rational numbers to solve inequalities and manipulate square roots.

7/8th Grade Literature- In literature we will be focusing on folk tales, tall tales, and myths. Among others we will be reading Greek myths and learning about the ancient Greeks. Each student will be research a particular Greek god and presenting a project to the class.

7/8th Grade Composition and Grammar- In language we will continue writing, drafting, proofreading, and editing our five paragraph essays. We will also continue our study of the eight parts of speech.

6th Grade Reading- We have been reading a combination of short stories and nonfiction writing from our anthology book. We have also been learning about sequencing, cause and effect, generalization, setting, and historical context.

6th Grade Language- In language we will be completing our study of sentence structure including: the four kinds of sentences, subject and predicate, word order, and simple and compound sentences. We will continue to develop our five paragraph essays.

8th Grade Social Studies- We will be beginning a unit on the Civil War and the issues that divided the nation at this point in U.S. history. We will learn about the strengths and weaknesses of the North and South, the leaders on each side in the war, and important key battles. We will be completing a Civil War project, which will involve researching one of the major battles of the Civil War.

6/7th Grade Social Studies- This year we are studying world history will a particular focus on ancient civilizations. We have completed a map project using our geography skills and knowledge. We are currently learning about the tools historians use to gather information about the past including: artifacts, oral traditions, primary and secondary resources.
